Florida Statute § 456.52 requires the prescribing physician to be physically present in the same room as the patient for the initial informed consent for gender-affirming hormone prescriptions. This is a state-imposed restriction and does not apply to menopausal hormone therapy for women, which is what this page covers.

Estrogen-alone therapy: Increases the risk of endometrial cancer in women with a uterus.

Estrogen plus progestogen therapy: Has been associated with increased risks of breast cancer, stroke, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and probable dementia in women over 65 (Women’s Health Initiative).

Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with treatment goals and individual risk profile. Tell your clinician about a personal or family history of breast cancer, blood clots, stroke, heart attack, liver disease, or undiagnosed vaginal bleeding before starting treatment.
