Who qualifies
GLP-1 medications for weight management are FDA-approved for adults with BMI ≥30, or BMI ≥27 with at least one weight-related condition.
You will not qualify if you have:
- A personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC)
- Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)
- Current pregnancy, breastfeeding, or active conception plans
GLP-1 receptor agonists cause thyroid C-cell tumors in rats. It is unknown whether these medications cause such tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), in humans. GLP-1 therapy is contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of MTC or in patients with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, headache, fatigue, dyspepsia, dizziness, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. Serious risks include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, hypoglycemia, acute kidney injury, suicidal behavior or ideation, and severe allergic reactions.
Tell your clinician about all medications you take and your full medical history before starting treatment.
Common questions
Is this just a prescription, or ongoing care?
It is ongoing care. Getting a GLP-1 prescription is the starting line, not the finish line. At Moxie Wellness, GLP-1 therapy is managed as the metabolic intervention it is — with ongoing clinical monitoring of your weight-loss trajectory, metabolic markers, lab values, and treatment response. Dr. Howard tracks what matters: A1C trends, fasting glucose, lipid panels, blood pressure, and body composition — not just the number on the scale. This is metabolic health management delivered by a Johns Hopkins-trained DNP, not a prescription-and-disappear model.
Which medications do you prescribe?
FDA-approved GLP-1 medications for chronic weight management, including Wegovy® and Zepbound®. Your prescription is sent to the pharmacy or manufacturer-direct program of your choice. Moxie Wellness does not dispense, sell, or mark up medication — you pay the manufacturer or pharmacy directly.
Do you take insurance?
Moxie Wellness is a cash-pay telemedicine practice and does not bill insurance for clinical visits. HSA and FSA payments are accepted, and superbills are available on request for out-of-network reimbursement.
How soon can I be seen?
